Decade long reigning champ Holly Holm lost an epic battle at Fresquez Productions: “World Dominance” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Holm was brutally TKO’d for the first time in her career by the French knockout specialist Anne-Sophie Mathis.

Some argue that the fight should have been stopped by the referee after Holm was knocked down in the 6th and even in the seventh round.

From this highlight video, I think Holm fought intelligently up till the end.
What do you think??

Check out comments from Holm after the fight from this news report from New Mexico’s KOB TV.
She wants a rematch!

Southpaw Holm (30-2-3, 9 KO) hadn’t lost since 2004. Her other loss was a TKO, but her corner threw in the towel because of a cut under her eye which ironically was opened again during this fight.

This year Holm entered the cage winning twice. Her debut fight was against Christina Domkee which ended with a TKO (kick to the thigh) and the other win against former Strikeforce Challenger Jan Finney with a TKO (kick to the body) . While Holm’s boxing future is far from over, it’ll be interesting to see if this spurs her to move toward’s the 135 lb division in women’s MMA.

Mathis is now 26-1 (22 KO) and the new pound for pound reigning champ for women’s boxing holding the IBA Welterweight title and WBAN Championship Belt.
